You will not believe this true story!
Amereki Kum, Escape From Dubai is the true story of Chicago CPA, Ted van der Zalm, who escaped from the Middle East by mailing himself to Amsterdam in a wooden crate.
Ted van der Zalm was born in the Netherlands during World War II and emigrated to the United States with his family as a teenager. He grew to love the United States and eventually became a US citizen. Ted worked hard to learn the language and customs. He served in the Army, went to college and became a CPA. He raised a family in Chicago in the 70s and 80s.
In the late 1980s Ted was offered a once in a lifetime opportunity to join a real estate development team with plans to build an all-inclusive resort in Belize. The belief among investors was that Belize was destined to be the next vacation hot spot; the next Cancun. His role was to pitch the project to wealthy individuals and secure financing for the project. Eventually the search for financing led the team to open an office in Dubai. This is where the plan unraveled.
In the end Ted was left with the option of spending the rest of his days in and out of a Dubai jail or finding a way to escape from the country.
